FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New book “My Calling: Chronicles of an Alaskan Hospice Nurse” by Esther Pepper RN, BSN, CHPN is released, an informative and moving portrait of care, grief, and meeting end of life with dignity
“My Calling: Chronicle of an Alaskan hospice Nurse” by Esther Pepper RN, BSN, CHPN has been released worldwide. This 250-page work is both the memoir of an experienced hospice nurse and a guidebook for medical professionals, caregivers, and families navigating the difficult landscape of end-of-life care. The author shares firsthand experiences gained over 16 years of working as a hospice nurse, balancing tender, true stories with practical advice for this specialized cross-section of the nursing community.
Through 29 beautifully descriptive accounts of hospice patients and their loved ones, Pepper examines the nuances of loss, illness, and grief while celebrating the resilience and companionship that marks even the most difficult times. Set against the backdrop of Alaska’s gorgeous but rugged terrain, these stories span a broad emotional spectrum from harrowing pain to welcome moments of levity.
Through the eyes of a caring, compassionate hospice nurse, readers see the differences and similarities in the end-of-life experiences among patients, healthcare providers, families, and the larger communities they are each a part of. Pepper openly shares insights about her own encounters with difficult moments, how grief affects providers, and the depth of the relationships that often form under somber circumstances.
On a more technical level, the author also provides valuable information about pain management, treating specific symptoms and specific conditions, and a summary of key takeaways from each patient’s story. Deftly connecting the emotional and spiritual aspects of hospice care with the practical responsibilities of nursing, Pepper offers a holistic view of this important service that is grounded in her firsthand perspective.
Simultaneously moving and informative, this wonderful book serves as guide, a memoir, and an empathetic overview for those working in end-of-life nursing, as well as the vulnerable people in their care. My Calling: Chronicles of an Alaskan Hospice Nurse (ISBN: 9781966074069 / 9781965340462) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
